Act water police attempt to rescue kangaroo from waterlogged bush

A young kangaroo, in an attempt to save its life when it slipped into water, has escaped from a waterlogged area in north-west Queensland.
A woman said she was trying to rescue her dog when she noticed her dog was not moving in her stream bank.
"I was trying to get the dog out from the water and I saw the kangaroo in the streambank," she said.
The woman approached the kangaroo, but it began to drag itself along.
"After I was done, I ran back, came back and found my kangaroo laying face down on the road.
"I grabbed it, pulled it out and tried to put it down in the streambank, because he is really big."
The kangaroo was found on the corner of a gravel road at a remote area just outside the city of Oatley.
The woman immediately went to a police station.
"There was a water patrol on top of the patrol and they came and found the kangaroo," the woman said.
"They took him to the hospital and we got him out of the water."
Caitlin Waddington from the State Government Conservation Council said kangaroos usually use the banks of streams or canals to drink to keep warm.
"So it is really the first water mammal we've had in Australia to survive in waterlogged areas before that unfortunately," she said.
She said it appeared that a group of residents had inadvertently saved the kangaroo by leaving it on the road.
"In our area that is the first water mammal that we've had in waterlogged areas," Ms Waddington said.
"And it is a very, very rare one, so it's really cool if people come out and do that because we've all experienced those things.
"If you go in and give a big welcome and you do the right thing, it will save the kangaroo and the person or persons that took the kangaroo from the road."
The department said in the event it had been flooded in the area a dog might have been affected, as would have been a family.
A spokeswoman for the department said it was working with its local council and Waterways Queensland, which operates the waterway.
"Waterway crews and members of the public will remain on the ground doing their best to check water management and other conditions to ensure the safety of this species and its inhabitants,'' a department spokeswoman said.

Carson Wentz looks like an upgrade for a second year QB who was drafted seventh overall, and who has been getting more opportunities on the practice squad. The Eagles had a few reports out of training camp that Wentz was struggling with a torn pectoral muscle that he'd suffered earlier in the season. The Eagles signed him to a two year, $7 million deal in October, and the team claimed him off waivers shortly after after. Wentz did take part in a limited, three part mini-camp, but did nothing much outside of taking part in some passing drills in the spring.
The 6'5" wide receiver looked fine for a first year starter, but looked somewhat off to start the season. Wentz has had more opportunities than you would think coming off surgery to remove a bone spur, and it isn't exactly a "full time job" as he has played just a total of 3 games in the first half of this season. I expect Wentz to prove the Eagles need him more, as he was a key cog of their explosive offense, and has shown he will work hard every week. He would fit right in at some point in 2016, however he also could be a nice player-not-player for the Eagles as a rookie and could serve as a third or fourth WR in 2015.
